The club was founded under the name of F.C. Cimentul Rîbniţaand played in Divizia A from 1995 till 2006. Then they get promoted to Divizia Naţională after they were renamed F.C. Iskra-Stal Rîbniţa. The club is supported by the big metal works fabric in Rîbniţa, JSCC Moldova Steel Works (Молдавский металлургический завод).

The city of Rîbniţa lies to the east of the Dnister and therefore in the area of Transnistria. Rîbniţa has 50,000 inhabitants from which 45% are of Ukrainian descent and only in each case 25% and 24% are Moldovans or Russians. With F.C. Iskra-Stal Rîbniţa it has a first league club, till now a more inconspicuously team of the league. The blue-reds are playing in the Gorodskoj Stadion which seats 4,500. Only a concrete stand with seven rows can be found on both sides of the pitch. They are covered with ailing wooden slats which were painted green some decades ago.
