The club F.C. Nistru Otaci was found in 1953; indeed they can show their first achievements since the new establishment of the national league. In 1998 Nistru (the Romanian name for the river Dnister) was excluded from the championship, because they did not want to accept a point deduction and did not line up to the following championship games. After the season, which was played till the end without Nistru, the club merged with Unisport Chişinău (which won the relegation by the not begun opponent Migdal Carahasani) and began as a FC Nistru-Unisport Otaci in the new competition. However, the union of both teams ends after only one year and probably counted rather only than a mean to an end. With the club name of Nistru Otaci, thrilling years followed. In 2002 and from 2004 to 2006 Nistru was vice champion, however, with several points remaining on the respective annual champion Sheriff Tiraspol. Till 2006 the blue-yellows stood a total of six times in the cup finals, however, they could win only the match in 2005 to win the first title. Consequently in 2001, Nistru was qualified for the European Cup as Sheriff Tiraspol, the opponent from the cup final, also became champion in that year.
The stadium, which is officially called Stadionul Sel'skiy, does not lie directly in Otaci, but in the village of Călărăşăuca. This is the Romanian local name. The Russian transcription is: Calaraşovca (Каларашовка). A minibus connects the nearby village regulary. The ground is located directly on the banks of the Nistru River. It has just one terrace with a little building in the middle.
